The Solid Waste & Recycling Divisionactively works to maintain and promote a quality of life through education eorts and the operation and maintenance ofexisting convenience centers throughout Beaufort County. As a division, we are dedicated to continually providing eectiveand courteous service to our citizens while ensuring a safe and collaborative work environment for all employees.Goals and Objectives-1.ContinuetoprovideanecientSolidWaste&Recyclingoperationtoincludeimprovedconveniencecentersandexpanded recycling opportunities including opportunities for either a county wide or regional transfer station and/ormaterials recovery facility (MRF).2.Expand our existing solid waste & recycling education program to encourage more recycling and waste reduction eortsthrough composting and other waste diversion programs.3.Regularly engage the Solid Waste & Recycling Board to include more presentations and informational packets.4.Continue moving forward with Solid Waste & Recycling capital and operational projects.Department Description:The Beaufort County Solid Waste & Recycling Division oversees the operations of the County Convenience Centers whichencompasses the collection, transport, and disposal of solid waste. The disposal of waste generated throughout the Countythrough curbside programs is also a division function and expense. The division develops and implements recycling initiativesto encourage the recovery of materials and provides public outreach and education to the community. Division functions alsoinclude regulatory compliance of litter enforcement programs and support for the Solid Waste & Recycling Board. The divisionadministers state mandated waste diversion programs and provides and arranges for a wide range of services and outreachto the general public. The division participates in assisting with providing rst responder and disaster recovery services to theCommunity during emergency events, and continuing eorts with obtaining compliance on all solid waste federal, state, andlocal policies and permits.Performance measures:1.Continue to provide manned Convenience Center operations throughout the County.2.Continue to provide routine maintenance on assets and infrastructure.3.Monitor the eectiveness of the implementation of the decal system implemented in FY22.4.Maintain the contracts for the proper disposal and hauling of waste.5.Completeallnecessaryrecommendationsoncetherequestedprogramevaluationisreceivedfromtheon-callconsultant.Budget highlights and special notes:1.Applied for three (3) federal grant opportunities to increase project funding for program improvements.2.Currently conducting an evaluation of current operations and avenues of improvement and cost saving measures.3.Continue to support municipalities and residnets in solid waste disposal.Expenditures Summary$0 -$10,442,112(-100.00% vs. prior year)Beaufort County, SC | Budget Book 2024 Page 379'
