We strive to reect the highest ethicalstandards in our relationships with the citizens of Beaufort County.Department DescriptionEach county has a popularly elected Clerk of Court who serves a four-year term. The Clerk of Court serves both the CircuitCourt and the Family Court. The Clerks of Court are charged with docket management, receipt of fees, nes and costs,maintenance of all court records, and submission of reports to a variety of state and federal agencies. In Circuit Court, theClerk of Court is responsible for both criminal and civil matters, and some of these duties include receipt of criminal warrantsand transmission to the solicitor, receipt of bail, compilation of trial lists, jury management and stang the courtroom while thecourt is in session. Among the duties a Clerk of Court is responsible for in Family Court are issuance of Rules to Show Causein cases where court orders have not been followed, and ling of Orders of Protection and transmittal of these orders to theappropriate local law enforcement agencies. Our department consists of nine Family Court sta members, thirteen CircuitCourt sta members and six part-time bailis.Performance MeasuresCurrently there are approximately 5,000 general sessions cases, 1,700 civil cases, 900 domestic cases and over 6,000 childsupport cases pending in Beaufort County that are managed by sta. We summon 1,100 to 1,500 jurors monthly to report forCircuit Court jury duty.
