Second, the plan will oer competitive wages and precise opportunities for growthwithin the agency. The potential growth chart will be explained thoroughly from the date of hire. Last, the Recruitment and RetentionPlan will combat high turnover rates while creating a unied working environment, which aids in the retention of sta.We have six (6) certied South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) instructors who have the ability to teach classes onAcademy certied lesson plans to ocers in our agency as well as other agencies. We will continue to send more ocers to becomecertied trainers. This level of responsibility gives the ocers a heightened feeling of being a part of a hierarchy in making adierence in the criminal justice process and prepares them for the next level in their careers. Along with these six (6) instructorsand our First Aid/CPR instructors, we no longer need to employ outside agencies to provide training to our department. By doingthis, we saved the county $10,000 in 2021.Department DescriptionThe Detention Center was built in 1992, with an originally rated capacity of 192 inmates. In 2000, that number changed to 239 by doublebunking the beds in certain units. In 2003, a new Pre-Classication unit was opened, adding sixteen (16) beds to an open dorm unit. Thetotal capacity changed to 255, which is our current maximum. The operational capacity is 204 (which is 80% of the rated capacity).
