Old Plats (Digitized Microfilm)

DIRECTIONS FOR USE OF OLD PLAT ACCESS

PLEASE READ BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN FILES

FILE CONTENTS:

These Plat files are conversions from Microfilm to .tif images in order to allow access over this Web site. They cover Plat Book numbers A, and 3 through 76. Generally the images are as readable or more so than the original documents. Books 1, 2, 27, 47 & 77 are not available from this site, and you will need to contact the Register of Deeds office to see them. Book 78 (Feb. 2, 2001) through the most current Plat book scanned into the system, are accessible through the “Property Records” search function on the Register of Deeds home page. If you are familiar with the Plat Books from using the aperture cards in the Deed Room, you will note that frequently there were multiple plats listed under the same page number. In order to give each Plat image a distinct ID, an alpha character has been added to the page number, which may result in some very inconsistent page number sorting within each Book file. Page numbers look like this “00000100.tif”. This is the first plat numbered page 10, and “0000010A.tif” is the second page of page 10. They may well appear out of sort sequence. Also, if Page 10 is actually 12 images, the next page number may be page 23, having skipped pages 10 and 10A thru 10K. You will just need to view the entire page number list. If, after scouring the page list, you find a page missing that you need, please inform the Register of Deeds office at (843) 255-2555..

HOW TO ACCESS OLD PLATS:

If you have gotten this far, you know how to access the Register of Deeds web site. And you will have selected “OLD PLATS”. After reading (and printing these directions for future reference), select the link button at the bottom of this page. You will be taken to an .ftp file listing the available Old Plat Books. This file allows you to open, view, print and/or save individual plats from the selected Book. At some future point we may be able to offer these Plat books in .pdf format, and eventually, we plan to Index these old Plats and place the images on our “Property Records” search function as an adjunct to that Index. NOTE: Once saved to your computer, if you have the proper Adobe Acrobat product, you may convert these .tif images to .pdf.
