Friday, January 16, 2026 12:48 PM
Beaufort County is now offering food waste drop-off for residents at several County Convenience Centers through a composting pilot program. This is an exciting milestone in efforts to reduce waste, divert organic material from the landfill, and create valuable compost for our community. This is an important step toward a more sustainable future.
Food waste drop-off is currently available at the following locations:
- Shanklin Convenience Center, 80 Shanklin Rd., Beaufort (map)
- Bluffton Convenience Center, 104 Simmonsville Rd. (map)
- St. Helena Island Convenience Center, 639 Sea Island Parkway (map)
- Hilton Head Island Convenience Center, 26 Summit Dr. (map)
County residents are encouraged to complete the following steps before using the bins:
- Visit Beaufort County Solid Waste and Recycle Composting webpage
- Watch a short training video
- Take a brief quiz
Once completed, residents will receive a unique PIN that allows you to access the food waste drop-off bins at the participating Convenience Centers.
This quick training helps ensure that only acceptable materials are placed in the bins, prevents contamination, and keeps our new program running smoothly and successfully. Additional virtual and in-person training opportunities will be available soon.
