The Beaufort County Community Services and Land Use Committee and County Council met Monday, February 12. Below are highlights from each meeting.

The Community Services and Land Use Committee highlights and actions:

  • Report from Assistant County Administrator Chuck Atkinson
    • Brief overview from Planning and Zoning Department Deputy Director Mark Davis on Greenspace Advisory Committee applications
  • Report from Assistant County Administrator Audra Antonacci-Ogden
    • Brief overview by Ana Ramirez, Program Coordinator for the Beaufort County Human Services Department and the Point-In-Time Count Coordinator for Beaufort County, discussed the data collection on the County's homeless population. Learn more about that here.
  • Presentation by Technical College of the Lowcountry requesting funding for a new Workforce Training Center. Watch the presentation here.
  • Approval of an ordinance authorizing the Interim  Administrator to convey portion of property owned on Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island
  • Unanimous approval to purchase new 36 passenger bus for senior services

The Beaufort County Council held their regular meeting beginning at 5 p.m., Monday evening.

Below are some highlights from that meeting:

  • Approval of second reading of ordinance for a 2024 Transportation Sales and Use Tax Referendum 
  • Approval of second reading of ordinance appropriating 15% of FY24 gross state tax accommodations tax revenue to development of workforce housing
  • Agenda item 11--second reading of an ordinance appropriating funds from State A-Tax funds as recommended by the State A-Tax Committee was referred back to Finance, Administration and Economic Development Committee for further review of allocations
  • Approval of resolution to accept the Military Enhancement Plan Fund Grant from SC Department of Veterans Affairs for the Laurel Bay Road Pathway Project

Highlights from the Consent Agenda:

  • Third reading of ordinance authorizing the Interim County Administrator to provide funding to purchase 76 May River Road
  • Approval for Interim County Administrator to enter into a contract with Bryx to provide a unified station alerting system
  • Approval of work authorization to prepare an environment assessment in support of the St. James Baptist Church project
  • Approval of Agencies, Boards and Commissions Appointments and Reappointments

The next regular County Council meeting will be Monday, February 26, at 5 p.m.

The next regular Community Services and Land Use Committee meeting will be Monday, March 11, at 3 p.m.
