Beaufort County Residents are Urged to Protect Themselves, Neighbors, and Animals
The Forecast
Hot and humid conditions continue across coastal South Carolina and Georgia
today, with possible impacts through the weekend. As of Friday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a heat advisory for Beaufort County. Record breaking heat will continue for our area, with heat index values up to 110 degrees possible.

Public Encouraged to Visit County Facilities to Stay Safe and Cool Off
- Burton Wells Recreation Center is open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Buckwalter Recreation Center is open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Beaufort Branch Library is open Monday - Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Bluffton Branch Library is open Monday - Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Hilton Head Branch Library is open Monday - Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Lobeco Branch Library is open Monday - Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Port Royal Branch Library is open Monday - Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- St. Helena Branch Library is open Monday - Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
These facilities will be open regular operating hours. No overnight stays. Weapons, alcohol, drugs, smoking, and pets are not permitted. Service animals are allowed. Please follow all facility rules and staff instructions.
Protect Pets and Livestock
- Keep your pets indoors during the hottest times of the day. Make sure your animals have plenty of ways to stay cool if they spend time outdoors at all during the summer months.
- As you prepare ways for yourself to beat the heat, include your pet in planning & preps.
- Ice and Ice Water
- A pool to play in
- Shaded areas
- Do NOT leave your pet (or child for that matter) in a car with no ability to get out of the vehicle
- Bring them inside
