Literacy Together Coalition Unites Beaufort County Around Reading and Literacy

Community organizations from across Beaufort County gathered in May for the second meeting of Literacy Together, a collaborative effort among schools, nonprofits, libraries, businesses, and community partners united by a common mission: ensuring Beaufort County residents of all ages have opportunities to become lifelong readers.

This meeting focused on supporting Summer Reading efforts countywide and encouraging organizations to work together to make reading visible, celebrated, and accessible throughout the community this summer.

The Literacy Together initiative is presented by the Beaufort County Library with financial support from the Public Library Foundation of Beaufort County, which also serves as a major supporter of the Library’s annual Summer Reading and Artist in Residence programs.

Participating organizations shared plans for supporting literacy and reading engagement throughout the summer and beyond, with organizers hoping the coalition will continue building partnerships and expanding access to literacy opportunities across the county.

“Literacy impacts education, workforce readiness, and quality of life,” said Amanda Dickman, Director of the Beaufort County Library. “By working together as a community, we can help ensure Beaufort County residents of all ages have the opportunity to grow as readers.”

The coalition continues to welcome organizations that share its commitment to literacy and lifelong learning.
