Beaufort County Solid Waste & Recycling is partnering with Palmetto Pride to promote June as Zero Tolerance for litter in County road- and waterways.

As part of the initiative Solid Waste & Recycling Department will be handing out 150 tarps free of charge at the County's four largest Convenience Centers during the month of June. The tarps are a way of encouraging residents to "tarp their loads" in an effort to reduce litter along County roads and waterways.

The four County Convenience Centers are:

  • 104 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton (map)
  • 26 Summit Drive, Hilton Head Island (map)
  • 80 Shanklin Road, Beaufort (map)
  • 639 Sea Island Parkway, St. Helena Island (map)

Uncovered truck beds are one of the leading causes of roadside litter. This month, Beaufort County is cracking down on litter with a zero-tolerance policy for un-tarped loads. This is another effort by citizens to help keep Beaufort County clean and beautiful.

County residents can also help monitor litter efforts if they see trash or illegal dump sites by using the BC Connect app. Available to download in both the Apple Store and Google Store, this app lets users easily report litter and illegal dump sites by submitting information including address and photos if possible. Once submitted the concern is directed to the appropriate department who will post updates and once completed, the case will be closed and user notified.
