Beaufort County Council Passes FY2027 Budget

Millage Rate Remains Unchanged for Fourth Year While Budget Delivers High Quality Services to Taxpayers 

At its regular County Council meeting on Monday, June 22, Beaufort County Council passed its third & final reading of the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Ordinance.

Council approved the $203,338,263 million General Fund budget with no mil-rate increase. Millage will remain at 59.5 for the fourth year in a row, while expanding services and investing in strategic goals as outlined by Beaufort County Council. 

Beaufort County Council held a strategic planning session in November of 2025 to establish the priorities and goals included in Resolution 2025/78. This resolution defines Council's ongoing initiatives from FY2026 and introduces new initiatives for Fiscal Year 2027 as follows:

  • Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability
  • Employee Compensation and Benefits
  • Infrastructure and Capital Projects
  • Strategic Investments and Modernization

The Key Budget Highlights for FY27 Include:

  • General Government - $64,483,738
  • Public Safety - $72,953,413
  • Public Works - $31,039,122
  • Public Health - $2,526,323
  • Public Welfare - $ 1,129,867
  • Culture and Recreation - $15,903,998

Beaufort County Administrator Michael Moore emphasized the FY2027 budget's alignment with Council’s stated goals and priorities, sharing, “Throughout this year's budget process, County Council emphasized the need to increase fiscal responsibility, improve infrastructure, and expand services to our taxpayers. We are confident that this balanced budget is a key step to accomplishing these goals, and I am grateful to our finance and budget staff for their hard work throughout this process.”
