Next Transportation Advisory Committee meeting will be held Wednesday, February 18,
from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., in County Council Chambers
The community-led Transportation Advisory Committee met Wednesday, February 4, for the first meeting to review the goals and projects, introduce themselves and choose Committee Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary.
The 15 County residents appointed to the committee were chosen for their commitment to engage the community and protect the County while determining the best way to invest in projects that meet our growing transportation needs. They represent each of the 11 County Council districts and one from the County's four municipalities: City of Beaufort, Town of Port Royal, Town of Bluffton, and Town of Hilton Head Island.
Lisa Sulka, representing the Town of Bluffton was voted Committee Chair; Glen Stanford, representing Town of Hilton Head, was voted Vice Chair; and Joy Coe, representing County Council District 4, was voted Secretary.
Both Council Chair Alice Howard (District 4) and Council Vice-Chair Tab Tabernik (District 6) were on hand to welcome the committee and thank them for agreeing to serve.
County Administrator Michael Moore welcomed committee members and gave a brief presentation on meeting guidelines, guidance on meeting efficiency and schedules as well as a timeline of deadlines that need to be met in order to accomplish the goals set forth by County Council.
County Attorney Brian Hurlburt discussed the steps involved to meet each deadline in a timely manner and encouraged the committee to follow Robert's Rules of Order. The committee discussed that option and later voted unanimously to use it.
Assistant County Administrator Jared Fralix gave a short powerpoint presentation outlining the previously voted on penny tax resolutions, projects involved, how many projects have been completed and the resulting positive impact to County residents, the status of projects funded through the 2018 Penny Tax referendum and the importance of this committee in prioritizing road projects and continuing crucial funding to allow Beaufort County to protect and invest in projects that balance unprecedented population growth and increased pressure impacting those who live, work and play in Beaufort County.
