Wednesday, February 25, 2026 11:18 AM
Nexus Care of Beaufort County, the Alcohol and Drug Department, has launched seven naloxone kiosks throughout Beaufort County as part of a comprehensive opioid abatement strategy to end overdose fatalities. Each kiosk is stocked with up to 65 boxes of free, life-saving naloxone, a medication that can reverse opioid overdoses and save lives.
The kiosks are located at:
- Beaufort Library, 311 Scott Street
- Bluffton Branch Library, 120 Palmetto Way
- Hilton Head Branch Library, 11 Beach City Road
- Lobeco Branch Library, 1862 Task Parkway
- Port Royal Branch Library, 1408 Paris Avenue
- St. Helena Branch Library, 6355 Jonathan Francis Sr. Rd.
- Myrtle Park Government Building, 4819 Bluffton Parkway
This initiative is funded by the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund Board using settlement dollars from lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies—not taxpayer dollars. The goal is to saturate Beaufort County with naloxone to prevent opioid overdose deaths.
“Naloxone saves lives, and accessibility is key,” said Rebecca Whitt Burgess, Director at Nexus Care of Beaufort County. “By placing these kiosks in public spaces, we’re ensuring that anyone who needs naloxone can get it—no questions asked.”
Appreciation for Community Partnership
Nexus Care extends its sincere gratitude to the Beaufort County Library System for partnering in this life-saving effort by hosting kiosks at multiple library locations. Their commitment to community health and safety is instrumental in making naloxone widely accessible.
Instructions Included
Each naloxone box and its packaging include clear instructions for administering naloxone, ensuring that anyone can confidently respond to an opioid overdose emergency.
Legal Protection for Saving Lives
Under the South Carolina Good Samaritan Law, individuals who administer naloxone in good faith to someone experiencing an overdose are protected from civil liability. This law encourages bystanders to act without fear when every second counts.
More Than Prevention: Treatment and Support
Nexus Care of Beaufort County also provides comprehensive treatment for opioid use disorder, including counseling, peer recovery support, medication-assisted treatment, and financial assistance for those who qualify.
