Beaufort County Residents are Urged to Follow Official Sources for Forecast Information

Beaufort County is actively monitoring the potential for winter weather that may affect our area this weekend. Internal preparations are underway to coordinate and stage resources, should they become necessary.

At this time, the National Weather Service (NWS) has not issued a winter storm watch, warning or advisory for Beaufort County. Information regarding any closures or changes to Beaufort County operations will be available on our website, through our email notification system, and on our social media channels. We encourage everyone to download the Everbridge app to receive up-to-date information on matters of public safety from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The Forecast

There has been a decreasing trend regarding the probabilities for impactful winter weather in our area. Chances for impacts due to ice accumulation from freezing rain continues to remain highest across portions of inland SE South Carolina and SE Georgia. Lows will drop into the upper teens inland to mid-upper 20s along coastal areas Monday night into Tuesday morning.

If Severe Weather Develops

  • Report issues with BC Connect, the mobile app that lets you submit requests directly to Beaufort County. Available now on the App Store or Google Play.
  • Stay Home: Please stay off the roads if possible. Road conditions could deteriorate quickly if winter weather arrives.
  • Wear Warm Clothing: Dress in warm layers of loose fitting, lightweight clothing. Wear a hat that covers your ears. Wear mittens and cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs. Wear waterproof, insulated boots to keep your feet warm and dry and to maintain your footing in ice and snow.
  • Protect Your Pets: Remember, if it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them. Bring pets indoors.
  • Prepare Your Home: Insulate outdoor pipes, and let indoor faucets drip to prevent freezing. Be aware of possible carbon monoxide poisoning, electric shock and fire if using alternative sources for electricity, heating or cooking.
