Beaufort County Residents are Urged to Prepare for Extreme Cold

Winter Weather Update - January 30, 2026

Beaufort County is actively monitoring and preparing for the extreme cold and potential for winter weather that may affect our area this weekend. Residents are encouraged to protect and prepare their homes, look out for their neighbors, and bring pets indoors.

Beaufort County Operations

In collaboration with Beaufort County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service, all County facilities will be closed Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1. County facilities are expected to reopen Monday, February 2.

Additional updates regarding any closures or changes to Beaufort County operations will be available on our website, through our email notification system, and on our social media channels.

We encourage everyone to download the Everbridge app to receive up-to-date information on matters of public safety from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Beaufort County Convenience Centers
All Beaufort County Convenience Centers will be closed Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1. The centers are expected to reopen Monday, February 2.

Daufuskie Island--Lowcountry Ferry Service
Lowcountry Ferry will actively monitor conditions and will make every effort to continue service until inclement weather prohibits operations. Riders should anticipate changes to the boat schedule and prepare for inclement weather. Ferry runs are subject to the Captain’s discretion for the safety of passengers and crew. Please visit lowcoferry.com for the latest updates.

County Airports
Hilton Head Island Airport and Beaufort Executive Airport are operating normally at this time, however as potential inclement weather approaches, travelers should check with their carriers for any possible flight delays or cancellations. Air travelers are encouraged to download their respective airline apps on their mobile devices and to enable notifications so they are sure to receive the latest official word from their airline. Travelers are encouraged to check their airlines for waivers, as well. Inquiries regarding flight information should be directed to the individual carriers. Operating schedules at both airports are subject to weather conditions.

Beaufort County Animal Services
Pets should be brought inside to shelter from the weather. Remember, if it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them!

Beaufort County Animal Services, in partnership with Jasper County Animal Rescue Mission, has just accepted quite a few dogs who live in outdoor pens in Ridgeland. Due to the severity of the cold weather for the next few days, out of an abundance of caution, the dogs have been moved inside at the County shelter in Okatie. With the shelter at full capacity, shelter staff is asking the public to stop by and foster a dog until this severe cold weather passes. Supplies are provided and a warm home will be a wonderful break and stress reliever for the dogs. Stop by Beaufort County Animal Services at 10 Pritcher Point Road, Okatie, to fill out an application or message them on their Facebook page.

The Forecast

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Beaufort County. Unseasonably cold weather will occur through early next week, with windchills in the single digits and teens over the weekend. Confidence is increasing that portions of our area will see accumulating snowfall.
