Beaufort County Parks and Recreation will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Agnes A. Major Community Center. The ceremony will be at 10 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2026, 21 Agnes Major Road, Sheldon (map). 

County Parks and Recreation Department Director Eric Brown will welcome guests and give opening remarks. Council Member Gerald Dawson (District 1) will offer congratulatory acknowledgments. 

Officials in attendance will include County Administrator Michael Moore, Deputy County Administrator Nicole Wood, County Council Members, Project Contractors and Architects, and Capital Improvement Projects staff.

The Agnes A. Major Community Center is one of two new facilities that will be built; the other is the Wesley E. Felix Complex, 179 Ball Park Road, St. Helena (map).
