Beaufort County Council Member Joe Passiment (District 5) attended the 2025 South Carolina Association of Counties Legislative Conference (SCAC) held earlier this month in Greenville, SC. He currently serves as a board member on SCAC.
The conference gathered county officials, members of SCAC’s Legislative Committee, and Policy Steering Committees from across the state to review key issues and adopt policy positions for the 2026 legislative year.
Throughout the event, Mr. Passiment participated in sessions covering a range of important topics, including rabies prevention efforts in South Carolina presented by Terri McCollister of the Department of Public Health, recent amendments to Act 33 explained by Woody Barnes of the Department of Environmental Services, and an emergency management update delivered by Emily Bentley of the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.
Mr. Passiment said the information shared during the conference will help guide thoughtful and informed decision-making for Beaufort County.
Presentations and photos from the conference are now available online, and SCAC’s official 2026 policy positions document will be released soon.
