The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Beaufort County for its annual comprehensive financial report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024.
"I am proud of all of our staff, especially the Beaufort County Finance Team, who work hard every day to ensure Beaufort County continues to act as good stewards of public funds,” said Beaufort County Administrator Michael Moore. "This certificate is a remarkable achievement."
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
“I’m proud of our team for continuing to earn this significant accomplishment,” said Pinky Harriott, the County’s Chief Financial Officer. “We are grateful to the GFOA for recognizing Beaufort County’s diligent work in financial reporting for the fifteenth consecutive year.”
Certificate of Achievement requirements for jurisdictions include adhering to all pronouncements issued by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and an annual audit by an external certified public accounting firm. An impartial panel judged the comprehensive financial report to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
This report provides important information to Beaufort County Council, Administration, all departments and Beaufort County taxpayers concerning how public funds are being spent and managed.
