Beaufort County Council held a productive workshop today to discuss key initiatives aimed at expanding affordable housing opportunities, strengthening employee support systems, and improving County operations.
Council members engaged in meaningful discussions around the availability of vacant land for a potential partnership with Habitat for Humanity, emphasizing opportunities to expand affordable housing options within the county.
The Council also reviewed results from the recent internal employee climate survey, discussing staff feedback and exploring ways to address concerns constructively. Council members emphasized their commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement within county operations.
In support of County staff, the workshop introduced a proposed step pay scale and merit pay policy aimed at improving employee retention and performance recognition. Additionally, discussions included plans for upgrading the County’s health insurance system to provide better coverage and access to care for all employees.
“These conversations are vital to ensuring that Beaufort County continues to grow as a supportive, forward-thinking community, for both our residents and our workforce,” said Alice Howard, Chair of County Council.
Council will continue to review feedback and refine these initiatives in the coming months.
