Beaufort County Public Works is actively working to provide relief for drainage issues in the Northern Lady’s Island and Royal Pines areas.

Most of the drainage from Middle Road to Sams Point Road—including Needlerush Court and Turtle Lane—flows east through a series of pipes and ditches to a single outfall point near Rock Springs Creek. At the discharge point, Public Works has partnered with the landowner to temporarily lower the pond elevation, allowing the system to better handle stormwater.

Crews have completed system inspections and identified several pinch points, particularly between Thomas Sumter Street and Sams Point Road. Maintenance activities currently underway include bush-hogging, ditch clearing, and pipe cleaning.

“We appreciate the community’s patience as we address drainage concerns in Northern Lady’s Island, and throughout other areas of the county,” said Bradley Harriott, Beaufort County Public Works Director.

As many of the roads in this area are owned and maintained by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), Beaufort County will be coordinating with SCDOT on additional measures. These discussions are focused on ditch work along Sams Point Road and the jetting/vacuuming of clogged crossline pipes beneath the roadway.

In addition to these immediate efforts, Beaufort County is continuing to develop intermediate and long-term improvements based on the drainage study completed last year.
