Beaufort County's FY26 Digital Budget Book is now posted online with quite a few upgrades, improvements and increased fiscal transparency.
Utilizing a platform called ClearGov, Beaufort County's Digital Budget Book is easily accessible to all interested citizens and can be read on a cell phone, tablet or laptop. This platform helps Beaufort County tell a financial story that taxpayers can be proud of with improved data accuracy, thoroughly outlined department expenditures and priorities, easy-to-understand charts and graphs, a complete Table of Contents, Glossary and Appendix.
The Digital Budget Book updates traditional financial reporting and information gathering with the final product being a clear web-based publication that prioritizes collaboration between stakeholders, consistent, easy to follow formatting, and most importantly, something that's easily understood by members of the public.
The Digital Budget Book can be found here.
"This Digital Budget Book allows greater engagement and ease of understanding for the general public—because taxpayers have every right to understand how their money is spent," said County Chief Financial Officer Pinky Harriott. "This state-of-the-art platform breaks down a multi-million dollar budget that can easily be viewed by the public. It's my responsibility to encourage County citizens to fully understand their budget, Council priorities, County projects and how every penny of their taxes is spent. This is the ultimate in fiscal transparency."
"This year's budget accomplished two powerful priorities: 1.) keeping the mil rate neutral for citizens and 2.) focusing on County Council's priorities of personnel, capital improvements and quality of life," said Alice Howard, County Council Chair. "Utilizing this platform to help all citizens understand the County budget is a win-win for the County. On behalf of County Council, I want to thank County Chief Financial Officer Pinky Harriott and her entire Finance team for bringing a well thought out budget forward and helping to increase community understanding of our process and final budget product."
