Beaufort County Public Works was recognized by Governor Henry McMaster and Lt. Governor Pamela Evette at the State Capitol this week in honor of National Public Works Week. Beginning Sunday, May 18 and running through Saturday, May 24, this is the 65th Annual celebration.
On hand at the State Capitol to accept the proclamation from Lt. Governor Pamela Evette was County Public Works Director Bradley Harriott and Projects Engineer Mark Johnson.
National Public Works Week honors those professionals who focus on infrastructure, facilities, and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities and to the public health, high quality of life, and well-being of the people of South Carolina and Beaufort County.
Governor McMaster recognizes that the infrastructure, facilities, and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, who are engineers, managers, and employees at all levels of government and the private sector, who are responsible for rebuilding, improving, and protecting our nation's transportation, water supply, water treatment and solid waste systems, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential for our citizens.
According to the Governor's proclamation, it is in the public interest for the citizens, civic leaders and children of South Carolina to gain and maintain an ongoing understanding of the importance of public works and the programs in their respective communities.
