Highlights and Actions: Community Services and Land Use Committee and Beaufort County Council

The Beaufort County Community Services and Land Use Committee met Monday. First, was the Community Services and Land Use Committee Affordable and Workforce Housing Workshop, followed by the regular committee meeting.

The workshop topic was Where Are We, Where Do We Want to Go and How Do We Get There. Highlights included a brief overview from Wendy Zora, Chairwoman of the Regional Housing Trust and Jeremy Cook, Attorney with Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd. Interim Director Dana Hartman brought the committee up-to-date on the loan approval, discussions with a local developer and the many conversations involving financing, and the best mix of affordable workforce housing units that will meet the County's needs.

The Community Services and Land Use Committee met and here are some highlights and actions:

  • Presentation of Beaufort Conservation District Annual Report
  • Discussion of funding opportunities identified for the Coastal Community Development Corporation Workforce Housing
  • Discussion regarding possible development moratorium and current zoning on Highway 170
  • Approval of rezoning request for 57 acres on Bennett Point Drive 
  • Approval of adoption of Passive Parks Department private business use policy, application and fee schedule

The Beaufort County Council held their regular meeting beginning at 5 p.m., Monday evening.

Below are some highlights from that meeting:

  • Public hearing and second reading to amend Beaufort County's FY2024 Budget Ordinance for rollover appropriations for Capital Improvement Projects approved but not completed in FY23
  • Public hearing and second reading adopting amendments to the Business and Professional Licenses ordinance
  • Public hearing and second reading of ordinance ratifying salaries for various elected officials
  • Approval of resolution to accept recommendations from the US278 Corridor Project Joint Independent Review and authorizing the Interim Administrator to send correspondence to the Town of Hilton Head requesting municipal consent for the project

Highlights from the Consent Agenda include:

  • Third reading authorizing the Interim County Administrator to accept right of way on Dianah's Drive
  • Third reading authorizing the Interim County Administrator to enter into a lease agreement for 30 Hunter Road
  • Approval of an ordinance authorizing the Interim County Administrator to enter into a lease agreement for real property located at 39 Airport Circle with High Tide Aviation Scenic Tours
  • Approval of contract award to RL Morrison for Alljoy Boat Landing repairs
  • Approval of contract award to O'Quinn Marine Construction for Whitehall Phase 2 Design-Build Construction Services
  • Approval of contract award to Terra Excavating for Southside Park Pickle Ball Courts

The next regular County Council meeting will be Monday, December 11, at 5 p.m.
