To strengthen its connection with the residents of Beaufort County, the council is launching a series of engagement events designed to address public concerns and foster open dialogue between local government officials and the community they serve.

“These ‘Chat with Council’ events are a testament to Beaufort County's commitment to transparency, accessibility, and responsiveness to the needs and concerns of its citizens,” said Beaufort County Council Chairman Joe Passiment. “The goal is simple: provide an inclusive platform where residents can express their thoughts, ask questions, and share ideas directly with county council members.”

Beaufort County Council believes that an informed and engaged community is the cornerstone of a thriving Lowcountry region. By initiating these events, the council aims to:

  • Listen to Your Concerns: The council values the opinions and concerns of its residents. "Chat with Council" events provide a direct channel for citizens to voice their questions, concerns, and suggestions.
  • Build Bridges: Council acknowledges that there are concerns among residents and stakeholders due to recent transgressions, and events like this are an opportunity to bridge the gap between government officials and the community.
  • Collaborate for Solutions: The council believes that the best solutions are often born out of collaboration. By engaging with the public, they aim to collectively find solutions to local challenges.

What to Expect

Chat with Council events will feature a more relaxed and informal atmosphere, where residents can engage with council members and members can respond directly to constituents. Attendees can expect:

  • Accessibility: Council members will be readily available to chat, ensuring that every voice is heard.
  • Interactive Discussions: Engage in meaningful conversations and share your perspective on topics that matter to you.
  • Open-Mindedness: The council is eager to hear diverse viewpoints and welcomes constructive criticism and innovative ideas.
  • Action-Oriented Outcomes: Your input matters. The council is committed to taking your feedback seriously and exploring actionable solutions.

The inaugural Chat with Council was held on September 28 at the Bluffton Branch Library and was attended by over 20 constituents. Additional events will be scheduled on a rotating basis, so residents both North and South of the Broad River can have a convenient meeting place. The next Chat with Council is scheduled for October 24 at 6 p.m., in County Council Chambers.

Your participation is vital in shaping the future of Beaufort County. Together, we can make our community an even better place to live, work, and play. Stay informed and join the conversation!
