Trail Talk at Fort Fremont Preserve: Land Preservation Nature Program

A 1.5 hour guided walk that focuses on the different environments in Beaufort County, and the wildlife that inhabits them.

Fort Fremont Preserve is 18-acres of mesic mixed hardwood forest surrounding the ruins of a Spanish-American War era fort. The fort was built in 1898 to defend the Port Royal Sound and Parris Island during the outbreak of the Spanish-American War. 

The County partners with the Friends of Fort Fremont (Friends) who service the history center and provide docent tours for historic interpretation. Visitors can check in with the Friends volunteers in the history center lobby to schedule a docent tour, ciew a diorama of how the fort and its surrounding grounds looked in 1898, and watch a video on the fort's history. Visitors may also take a self-guided cell phone tour along the interpretive sign pathway by downloading the "Fort Fremont Historical Park" app. 

The Picnic pavilion is available to visitors on a first-come, first-serve basis and has 6 tables.
