Beaufort County Land Preservation Department has posted a new park maintenance form that allows visitors to report any issues they see when visiting one of the many County passive parks and preserves.

Created by Beaufort County Geographic Information System (GIS), this online form asks visitors a variety of maintenance questions related to parking areas and walkways, kiosks and signage, fencing, trails, restrooms, and a status update of park features including trash cans, picnic tables and benches, dog and first aid stations, water fountains and piers and docks when applicable.

Park visitors are also encouraged to take photos of the areas of concern and upload them when filling out the form.

Here are some quick facts about the growing popularity and usage of the County's Passive Parks and Preserves:

• There are currently 16 passive parks and preserves open to the public, which the Land Preservation Department manages 10 of them.
• Most popular properties managed by the Land Preservation Department include Crystal Lake Park, Fort Fremont Preserve, Whitehall Park and Widgeon Point Preserve.
• Those properties are used by residents and visitors of all kinds, including individuals, families and for small events and gatherings.
• Visitation is averaging 40-150 people per day at the various parks and preserves that are managed by the Land Preservation Department.
• The Land Preservation Department received over 30 event requests of various types in 2025.
• Our County Naturalist provided 84 environmental education programs in 2025, with over 800 attendees.
• The Land Preservation Department is actively working on 6 new passive park development projects and look forward to opening those in the future.
